3.8.18 Video - Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central advance to girls' state hoops semifinals

Wheeling Park and Wheeling Central got off to opposite starts in their two state quarterfinal match ups, but both will end up playing in the state semifinals following Thursday's action at the Charleston Civic Center.

Park trailed their Class AAA quarterfinal vs George Washington 29-19 at the half, and trailed by 15 midway through the third quarter. That's when they turned things up, ending the quarter on a 19-2 run to take a 42-40 lead after three quarters en route to a 59-49 victory. Senior Kylie McKennen led Park with 20 points, while freshman Bella Abernathy added 19.

The Patriots will face top-seed Buckhannon-Upshur in the state semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Wheeling Central meanwhile got off to a hot start in a Class A quarterfinal vs Trinity Christian. The Maroon Knights shot 59 percent in the opening half, building 46-18 lead on the way to a 78-47 victory.

Senior Taylor Duplaga led four players in double figures with 19 points.

The Maroon Knights will take on Tucker County at 11:15 a.m. in Friday's state semifinal.
