Veteran group controls crowd at Jamboree

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio – It’s Day 2 of Jamboree in the Hills, and it was an early start for thousands with the infamous Redneck Run making its debut on The Today Show Friday morning.
After a big party Thursday night featuring Darius Rucker and Little Big Town, many were sleeping in the gravel at the main gate in the early morning hours.
And one veteran Jamboree group doesn't sleep on pebbles was there watching over them all, aiming to keep everyone safe through all of the chaos.
"We are actually called the Frontline Group,” said member Don Mozer, of Erie Pa. “We started this in 1994 to help out the Jamboree people. It's fun. You meet good people and everyone understands what we are doing.”
Although they started working crowd control in 1994, many of them have been going to Jamboree since the beginning.
“The crowds were maybe about 10,000 people, and now we've had 100,000 here,” said fellow member Scott Mimnaugh of Pittsburgh.
"The facility used to be at Brush Run Park,” reminded Mozer. “It was over there in ’77 and went through 1990. It was the same kind of concert but it outgrew it basically."
This group earns their spot by clearing the path for the run and settling tarp disputes.
“It's a safety thing for the crowd and get everybody down to their spots safely,” Mozer said.
They met at Jamboree and are from all from different areas of the country -- some even from Canada.
Many have come for more than 30 years and have seen the greats -- from Johhny Cash to Reba McEntire to Garth Brooks.
“Back in the beginning it was a whole lot laid back and relaxing,” Mozer said. “Now it's a big deal to be here. Ronnie Milsap, The Oak Ridge Boys. We have a book in our camper. We keep a program for every year and you say, ‘Wow he was here this year, Garth Brooks was here.’”
